Norway Is Formally Liberal But Hypernormative

• There is a space where “diversity” is technically encouraged but that space is small and rigid. “Be yourself, but in a way that we expect”.
• You can be gay in Norway (easier if you’re white) but if your bum is not on a mountain in Easter skiing you’ll have a lot of explaining to do.
• You can celebrate Eid (few will ask) but you better be celebrating Christmas.
