• It is only natural to be careful with the gifts we are given but gifts can be a burden as well.
• Ironically, the higher one ascends in socioeconomic status the fewer available career paths they are socially sanctioned to have. They may have all the options but they may feel like they don’t.
• Wealth inherited as opposed to earned makes people extremely conservative because the goal becomes not to lose it because there was never an understanding of how to gain it.
• You can see this with old European families that seek to conserve wealth instead of actually growing it like Americans.
